This is Alex’s story. She’s still awaiting the throne her father currently occupies, and as the heir to it, she feels like she should have been born after her high-achieving brother who, in her mind, would have been better suited to the role. While her mother continues to try to set her up with appropriate women, Alex can only see Bexley as the woman she wants to share her life with.
Bexley has no plans to be Queen Consort, but seeing Alex in a tool belt and as an amazing aunt to Nora and Alice’s kids has her thinking she might want to alter her life plans.
It’s worth noting here that there is no What Happened After for the Royalty Series, so this is the final book in the series.
This book also wasn’t one I planned on writing initially. If you’ve been following along with the Royalty Series, you’ll remember that I only planned on writing Ascending. I had the idea to make up a country and tell the story I wanted to tell, but as I was writing, I wanted to have other royals for Elizabeth & Palmer to meet along the way. Suddenly, I had an idea for a series of royalty books, and I made Alex’s the last book because I needed to work my way up to the UK and the most well-known monarchy in the world.
I wasn’t sure who I would have Alex fall in love with, though, until we met Bexley in Book 3, Arriving. Then, giving the future queen a big-time secret crush made the most sense, and Awaiting was born.
