Flashback: Reality Check

What made me want to write a book about a reality show? I honestly have no idea. I haven't watched reality TV in years; maybe even over a decade ago. Unless you count Top Chef or FaceOff. (Yeah, that's reality TV, I know.) But I hadn't watched The Real World Road Rules Challenge since before they started naming them things like The Gauntlet, Battle of the Sexes, The Inferno, and on and on and on. (I totally had to look those season titles up just now).

Anyway… For whatever reason, I kept picturing this shy person who didn't really want to be there but was, and someone who was a lot less shy and way more confident in their ability to win a reality competition. As with many of my ideas, it just wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it.

I liked the idea of making Dayton a player who noticed a shy Cali, even though she had no reason to, really, and that Cali would challenge Dayton a bit. I could’ve written that book set just about anywhere, but it seemed cool to set it on a reality show, with crazy competitions and prize money at stake. It amped up the story for me, and it wasn't really a book I'd read before, so I thought others might like to read a little something different.

If you've read it, let me know in the comments if you liked it.

And if not, give it a try. It has an audiobook version as well as e-book and paperback.
