Week 12: Dani & Peyton vs Kenzie & Lennox

(Lennox & Peyton Argue About Brackets)

“Hey, have you seen this?” Dani asked.

Peyton looked over at her wife’s phone and said, “No. What is it?”

“Some celebrity couple thing.”

“What did I miss?” Lennox asked, sitting down next to Kenzie in the oversized chair in Dani and Peyton’s living room.

“Nothing,” Kenzie said.

“Hey, you’re on here, too.” Peyton took Dani’s phone from her and read a little more.

“On where?” Lennox asked.

“This competition thing for March Madness.” Peyton laughed. “Dani just found it. They’re asking people to vote for their favorite couples, like in the basketball thing.”

“She means the basketball tournament that happens every March that she knows nothing about because she doesn’t pay attention,” Dani added. “Even though we had a Final Four party for it last year.”

“That’s what that was for?” Peyton asked her. “I thought it was for the NBA.”

“She’s really cute,” Dani said with a laugh. “Your sister’s school literally won the whole thing last year, which is why we hosted the party.”

“Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.” Peyton looked over at Lennox. “Hey, if you win and we win, we’ll face off against each other in the Championship.” She aimed the screen of Dani’s phone at Lennox and Kenzie.

“Face off?” Kenzie asked.

“Yeah, we’re on opposite sides of the bracket,” Dani replied. “So, if you win all your rounds and we win ours, we’ll be in the Championship against one another.”

“And this is for people to vote on?” Kenzie asked, looking over at Lennox.

“Apparently,” Lennox told her with a little laugh. “Want to beat out the popstar and supermodel, babe?”

“Hey,” Peyton said. “Dani hasn’t been a supermodel for a long time now. You mean photographer.”

“Fine. Want to beat the popstar and photographer?”

“I am a Grammy Award-winning musician, thank you very much,” Peyton contested.

“Oh, my God!” Lennox laughed. “Kenzie, babe, want to beat Dani and Peyton, the asshole, at this whole best couple thing?”

“Not really,” Kenzie replied.

Dani laughed a little and said, “Are you going to compete over this?”

“Yes,” Peyton answered and stared at Lennox.

“How will you do that?” Kenzie asked.

“We can campaign,” Lennox said, glaring at Peyton.

“There would have to be rules.”

“You have way more Insta followers than me, and you’re talking rules?” Lennox tossed back.

“You have more on Twitter.”

“Only because you’re never on Twitter. Plus, Dani has a ton on Instagram and Twitter.”

“Kenzie has a whole thing on Insta for the new movie. It’s a campaign on its own. She could just toss in a mention of this thing and get a ton of people to vote for you.”

“Oh. You’re right. Babe?” She looked at Kenzie.

“What?” Kenzie asked.

“Can you do one of those live videos you have to do for the movie, and tell people to vote for us?”

“No,” she replied.

Peyton laughed and said, “Your own wife doesn’t even want you to win.”

“Kenz…”

“I just meant that you could do it. I’ll pass you the phone. You know I hate doing this stuff. It’s just in my contract. I’ll say the things I have to say, and I can pass you the phone.”

“Oh, I like that. We’ll cross-promote it with your followers and mine.”

“Dani, what can you offer?” Peyton asked.

“Sorry? Did you mean to ask it like that?” Dani laughed at her.

“No, just that you have a ton of TikTok followers, too.”

“I do,” she replied. “You actually expect me to tell random people to vote for us as a better couple than our best friends?”

“You know you married a competitive woman.”

“Did I?” Kenzie asked, looking at Lennox.

“Only when it concerns that asshole over there,” Lennox replied, pointing to Peyton.

“Oh, I’m going to write a song about this, perform it live on Dani’s TikTok, blast it on my YouTube channel, and put it on Insta and Twitter,” Peyton said. “You can’t compete with that. What’ll you do? Write a scene or something?”

“You really want to throw this gauntlet down, Gloss?” Lennox asked.

“Dani and I can take you two,” she returned.

“Dani isn’t campaigning to be Couple of the Year, or whatever this thing is, just because you two have a warped view of friendship. Kenzie?” Dani checked.

“I’ve got a new movie and two kids. Three, if you count her.” Kenzie pointed to Lennox. “So, no.”

“Want to let them work this out themselves, then?”

“Sounds good to me,” Kenzie said.

“We’re going to kick your ass,” Peyton teased.

“It’s on. Babe, get our kids. I’ll have them tell people what amazing parents we are on camera. That’ll get us some votes.”

“No, you won’t,” Kenzie replied and kissed her cheek. “But I love you.”

Lennox laughed a little and said, “I love you, too.”

“I love you, too,” Peyton said to Dani.

“Oh, hell no. You just asked me what I could offer, as if I offer nothing else. You can put all of our kids to bed tonight and talk to me tomorrow,” Dani joked and laughed.

“She loves me,” Peyton said, shrugging her shoulder.

“I only love winners.” Dani winked at her.

Peyton laughed then and looked over at Lennox and Kenzie, who both had their phones out.

“What are you doing?”

“Voting for ourselves,” Lennox replied.

“What the-” She turned to Dani, who had taken her phone back from Peyton.

“On it, babe,” Dani told her.

Peyton pulled out her own phone and voted.
